Contract Hire with maintenance or without maintenance?

Most new cars now come with a three year warranty covering up to 60,000 miles. Usually any breakdown or failure is covered by the warranty and the owner or vehicle user does not have to pay. The interval between services for most cars is either annual or at least 12,000 miles if not 15,000 or even 20,000 miles in some cases. In a typical three year contract most cars would only need to be serviced at the end of the first and second years. At the time of the service the only thing that should have to be paid for is the oil and filters plus any consumables used, anything else should come under the terms of the manufacturers’ warranty. Obviously as the mileage increases and depending on how heavy your right foot is a new set of brake pads and maybe even a set of front discs may be called for.


You must decide whether the convenience of not having to pay for any services or repairs is outweighed by the higher monthly rental costs.
