Ford Edge Oxygen Sensor and the Right Fuel Mix

The Ford Edge, a medium-sized sport utility vehicle, is among the latest models of the American automaker Ford. Like most of the automobiles that recently came out in various auto shows, the Edge is also made to be friendlier to the environment. Equipped with an efficient Ford Edge oxygen sensor, this vehicle produces power better minus the noxious emission.

A Ford Edge oxygen sensor is a staple device for the exhaust system of this SUV. Its function is to make the engine burn fuel more efficiently. This relatively small auto part is purposefully mounted along the exhaust passageway just next to the catalytic converter. In this position, the oxygen sensor, also called the lambda sensor, can closely monitor the fumes that the engine produces during the combustion process. As the fume pass by the sensor, the sensor immediately examines it and determines if there is sufficient or insufficient oxygen inside the engine block. This is important to know because a good combustion always needs the right combination of air and fuel. The readings that the sensor gets are then relayed to the engine control unit for the other parts of the engine to do the required adjustments. Once the right proportions are achieved, the SUV’s power plant can now burn fuel more efficiently so that more horsepower is generated. Such engine feat translates to a vast improvement in the fuel economy, or in layman’s term, lesser fuel refills are needed.

As the Ford Edge oxygen sensor aids the engine to consume fuel more efficiently, noxious emission is also reduced. When the vehicle’s power plant manages to maintain the right mixture proportions, which is neither too lean nor too rich, the chances of producing Carbon dioxide and Sulfur oxide are reduced.

The benefits of the Ford Edge oxygen sensor are really remarkable. This small but definitely effective performance part makes this new SUV powerful and yet a lot friendlier to the environment as well as to the owner’s pocket.
