New XC60 Joins Volvo Family

This upcoming January, the Volvo Cars Corporation would soon be introducing and unveiling their newest compact sports utility vehicle. This big event would be done during the Detroit Motor Show. According to sources, the new compact SUV bears the name XC60 instead of the XC50.

Taking a look at the new Volvo XC60, experts have agreed that this one looks just like the Volvo XC90, only much smaller. But still, it is quite large compared to the current Toyota RAV 4 model. This new vehicle that would be competing with the likes of the Lexus RX, BMW X3, Mercedes Benz GLK Class, and the Acura RDX.

Volvo made sure that this vehicle is going to be a good performer off and on the road so the company equipped the vehicle with quality Volvo auto parts. And this would be quite a new one for Volvo. Compared to the upcoming Volvo V70 and the XC70 estate crossover sport utility vehicle, this Volvo XC60 can take on the challenge of rough and off roads.

The company further informs the public that the new Volvo XC60 would be mounted with engines just like those that are used on the Land Rover Freelander. Speculations have it that this new vehicle would be coming with a 3.2 liter inline six engine or the Ford PSA diesel engine. But what is sure is that this SUV would be mounted with the Haldex four wheel drive system. This system would be the same one to be used in the upgraded XC70 and all other Volvos that have an all wheel drive.

According to the company, the Volvo XC60 is actually one vehicle that has been created and designed using the S80 platform of the auto manufacturer. But you see, this same platform would soon be used by the upcoming midsized vehicle models from Ford, Mazda, Mercury, and even Lincoln. Previously, rumors were rounding the industry that the Volvo XC60 would be using the C1 platform instead which is currently being used by vehicles like the Volvo C30, Volvo S40, Volvo V50, Mazda3, Ford C-Max, and the Ford Focus.
